Word of Dreamland’s enchanting aura has spread among photographers and she has been getting a lot of press. I have always felt that I could feel the ghosts of Duke Ellington and other great musicians that once played within her walls, but apparently the custom woodwork, faded and chipped plaster, and abundant windows make for a fantastic photo shoot.

When Photographer Jason Masters called requesting a photo shoot, we were more than happy to oblige. Dreamland is a national treasure and such treasures should be shared. And when we learned that the photo shoot was for Little Rock’s own designer, Korto Momolu from Season 5 of Project Runway, we were ecstatic. We had a little photo shoot of our own to record the event. Take a look. I think this proves that while it’s true that “One day you are in, the next you are out,” it is also true that beauty endures. And as sure as Dreamland was once magnificent, even in decay she is still beautiful. Soon she will be restored to her former grandeur and get a second chance at fame.

We took a few pictures to show you how cool it was.

The original painting of “American Pride” was inspired by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Nationally recognized artist Pat Matthews painted this impressionistic image of the American flag on the same day as the attacks in memory of those who suffered and died that day.

This original oil painting as well as 1000 limited edition, lithograph prints of “American Pride” were signed and numbered by the artist and designated to help those directly affected by the events.

Proceeds from the sale of these prints were placed in a special fund for the New York City fire fighters. In April of 2002, Patrick flew to New York City and presented an original oil painting with a check from the special fund along with three hundred and forty-three signed original lithograph prints to Engine 4, Ladder Company 54, Battalion 9 at 782 Eighth Avenue in New York City.

This station lost fifteen men on the morning of September 11. Additionally, there were a total of three hundred and forty-three fire fighters that died as a result of that tragic day.

FlagandBanner.com is proud to offer both the original paintings and lithographs for sale in our gift store, with proceeds benefiting the New York City fire fighters fund.

NEW YORK — New Yorkers call it The Little Chapel That Stood. Across the street from the World Trade Center, St. Paul’s Chapel survived Sept. 11, 2001, while the twin towers fell.

Within days, the 18th-century church became a sanctuary for ground zero workers, who ate, slept, washed and wept in the chapel where George Washington once prayed. Outside, the church’s iron fence was draped in tributes and flowers left by mourners.

On display are hundreds of artifacts taken from the fence, including photographs, letters, drawings, flags, even such exotic tributes as strings of Japanese origami peace cranes. Some can be seen on digital archives, along with interviews of rescuers, survivors and volunteers.
